About This Place

Cap'n Jim's Fish & Chicken to Go stands out as a beloved seafood and fast food gem in San Antonio, TX, offering up some of the best fried fish and chicken that locals can’t stop raving about. Nestled conveniently on Pleasanton Road, this no-frills, takeout-only spot perfectly marries classic Southern comfort food with wallet-friendly prices, making it an irresistible destination for a quick, satisfying meal.

The menu centers around hearty portions of expertly fried fish and chicken, all served fresh to order. Signature dishes like the Fried Fish and French Fries and the Fried Chicken with Fries deliver that ideal balance of crispy, golden batter and tender, flavorful meat. The crowd favorite 2 PC Fish Combo pairs two generous fish filets with jumbo shrimp, while the Fried Fish Shrimp and Chicken Special offers a delicious medley of the best from the sea and land. Each plate is accompanied by crispy fries and often slices of soft, buttery bread, rounding out a meal that is as hearty as it is comforting.

From the moment you bite into Cap’n Jim’s perfectly seasoned, crispy fish, it’s clear why customers like mike castro call it one of the best fried fish stops around. The fish filets come in “huge pieces” with a crunch that gives way to moist, flaky interiors, seasoned just right to keep you coming back. The fried chicken doesn’t disappoint either—crispy, flavorful, with a satisfying crunch embraced by juicy leg quarters that remind you of homemade Southern cooking.

Though Cap’n Jim’s does away with traditional sit-down dining in favor of a speedy order-at-the-window experience, it’s precisely this simplicity that heightens the joy: fast, fresh, and friendly. Customers like Rebecca Fiala appreciate the “big portions” and freshly made orders, while Mrs. ILoveToTeach endorses the freshness and crispy texture, noting the perfectly seasoned fish and crunchy chicken that make every bite memorable. The generous sweet tea is often mentioned, though some, like Dam Son220, feel it could use a touch of improvement—but this is a small quibble compared to the overall value and taste.

What truly makes Cap'n Jim's shine is the unbeatable combination of quality, quantity, and price. For under $10, diners enjoy satisfying meals that stack up nicely against bigger chain competitors, yet deliver on flavor and portion size without the premium price tag. JoseAngel Siller’s review sums it up best—“Great price. Great food.” Whether you’re craving two large fish fillets and chicken with fries or a 9-piece fish feast with all the fixings, Cap’n Jim’s promises hearty satisfaction every time.

In the world of fast, flavorful, no-nonsense seafood and chicken, Cap’n Jim’s Fish & Chicken to Go is a hidden oasis where taste and value triumph. If you’re in San Antonio and longing for a crispy, well-seasoned seafood meal or the crunchiest fried chicken around, this spot is a must-try that will keep you coming back—often faster than you’d expect.

I had the two piece chicken, fries and a sweet tea for under $3.50. Great price. Great food. 7/21/22: great deals as always. 2 large fish fillets and two pieces of chicken, 4 slices of bread, lots of fries and a 32 oz tea for $9.89. My favorite place to pick up fish. Great tasting and reasonably priced.

Got the 9 Piece Fish. It came with fries, bread, tartar sauce and a gallon of sweet tea. No indoor seating. You order at the window. Everything is made fresh to order. The fish was really good. Big portions of food.

Food is great don't get me wrong, the sweet tea is eh. It could be better. Giving this place 5 stars because the prices are amazing and I save a lot more than going to Bill Millard, KFC, Churches chicken. The chicken is a great size and the fries are nice. Just the sweet tea and the wait at times is a hit or miss. Other than that I'll continue coming to Cap'n Jims

Definitely a place you can’t judge a book by its cover. We ordered the special 2 pc fish 2 pc chicken fries and a 32 oz tea for $10 and some change. It was very fresh and very good. It came with 2 good sized pieces of fish and 2 leg quarters. The chicken was crunchy and had lots of flavor. The fish was crispy and seasoned just right. The tartar was a lil too Mayo with not enough pickle for my taste. The bottom of the box was filled with warm fresh fries and we got 4 slices of bread. We will definitely be back for the family chicken special.
